The Steinhart occupies a building dating back to 1910 that is part of the US National Register of Historic Places. This extended-stay hotel in San Francisco once belonged to entrepreneur Ignatz Steinhart, who was benefactor of the aquarium located in Golden Gate Park. The property is 3 blocks from the neighborhood of Nob Hill, settled on one of the 44 hills of the city, within a 2-kilometer (1.2 mi) radius of Union Square and Japan Center. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is 22 kilometers (13.7 mi) away. The 57 studios and apartments at The Steinhart hotel were designed by William Sofield, who also planned Ralph Lauren® and Gucci® boutiques.
